Cubscouts CANCELLED for Thursday, Feb 3‏

See you next week!

Coming Soon:

Hi, Scouters!
Lots of info in this one!  (And time sensitive, too.)

We have a family campout coming up Fri-Sat, March 18-19 (the second weekend of Spring Break - Fri evening to Saturday afternoon).  It will be at Camp Strake off of 336 South.  All cub scouts and their families are invited to attend.  Each cub scout must have a parent/guardian present to attend.  The cost will be $5 per person (which includes campsite fee & two meals).  Money is due to Rod Morrow or Sara Blaney by Thu, Feb 10.  That is next week!  FYI: that means tents, campfires, running water, toilets, and showers!
More details to come.

A little heads-up: Thu, Feb 17 meeting will be a field trip.  (Still 7-8pm and in Conroe) Details TBA

Coming up on Sat, Feb 26 at 9am, we have the annual Blue & Gold Banquet, where we celebrate the birthday of Boy Scouts of America.  We will again have a pancake breakfast along with an awards ceremony.  We are asking families to contribute ingredients & equipment for the banquet such as eggs, pancake mix, fresh fruit, milk, orange juice, electric skillets, etc.  We will have a sign-up sheet very soon.  (The items should be brought by Thu, Feb 24.)  The boys will be serving, but we could use some help cooking.  Cubscouts  should be in full uniform.

Also coming up is the deadline for summer cubcamp pre-registration.  This is not only a LOT of fun, but they can pass off a lot of requirements for their rank badges, and you won't find many other summer camps for the same price.
* Camp will be Jun 13 – 17 from 8am to 3pm.  The cost last year was $45 per cubscout if you pre-register by the deadline.  If you wait, it goes up $10 or $15.  We're still getting details about cost and deadlines from the district and will let you know ASAP.
* Be prepared to submit the following items:
1) medical form, 2) insurance card, 3) application for camp, 4) payment (We still have medical forms and insurance cards on file for those Webelos that went to Webelos Woods in November.  These are good for 1 year.)
Payment should be made on a tithing slip (in the "other" section write "cubscouts").
* Every cubscout attending camp has to arrange for an adult to help as a den walker for at least 1 day of the camp.  This can be a parent, grandparent, friend, another scout's parent, someone, as long as they register and go through the Youth Protection Training (found at myscouting.org).  Cost for adult volunteers is $10 (Conroe 1st will pay for Conroe 1st parents/den walkers) which includes a t-shirt.

Finally,
We are really struggling with not having enough den leaders for the boys.  So, we are asking for parent volunteers who would be willing to assist on Thursday nights.  (We have a couple who have already been a big help. Thank you!)  You don't have to plan the meetings, just be there to assist.  Youth Protection Training and background check are a pre-requisite (instructions for these are here: http://cubs1045.blogspot.com/2010/10/attention-leaders-committee-members.html)  I understand if you cannot add another committment to your list, but it would make a big difference if I have a list of people willing to take turns as the need arises.

Thank you!

There were a lot of really neat cars out there.  Great job, cubscouts!

Thank you to everyone put it together: for helping to build cars, cheering the boys on, taking pictures and videos, making awards, setting up the track, providing refreshments, setting up, cleaning up, generally supporting our boys and making it happen!
